Tingling in the fingers is a typical sign of carpal tunnel syndrome. It is a disease in which there is pressure on the median nerve in the wrist. All the finger tendons and that nerve pass through that tunnel. Patients have a feeling of numbness in the first three fingers of the hand. The complaints are more intense at night when I can wake up from sleep.
Later, pains also appear. The last stage of an untreated disease is irreparable damage to the nerve and, consequently, the muscles.
Grip strength is weak and objects fall out of patients' hands.
After it is diagnosed by examination and X-ray and ultrasound, less common causes of the disease are ruled out. The condition of the nerve is verified by an EMNG examination, which can be with needles or skin electrodes.
Carpal tunnel syndrome is treated with surgery under local anesthesia through an incision of about 1 cm. During the operation, the ligament that causes the pressure is cut.
The patient can go home immediately after the operation.
